Global Warming Cause

Global Warming is caused by many factors. The causes are split up into two groups: ''Man-made'' or anthropogenic causes, and ''Natural causes'', which are caused by nature. One natural cause is a release of methane gas from arctic tundra and wetlands. Methane is a greenhouse gas that traps heat in the earth's atmosphere. Another natural cause is that the earth goes through a cycle of climate change. This climate change usually lasts about 40,000 years.
Man-made causes probably do the most damage. There are many man-made causes: Pollution is one of the biggest man-made problems. Pollution comes in many shapes and sizes. Burning fossil fuels is one factor that causes pollution. Fossil fuels are fuels made of organic matter such as coal, or oil. When fossil fuels are burnt, they give off a green house gas called CO2. Also mining coal and oil allows methane to escape. How does it escape? Methane is naturally in the ground. When coal or oil is mined, you have to dig up a little earth.When you dig up the fossil fuels you dig up the methane as well.
Another major man-made cause of Global Warming is population. More people means more food, and more methods of transportation, right? That means more methane because there will be more burning of fossil fuels, and more agriculture. Now you are probably thinking, "Wait a minute, you said agriculture is going to be damaged by Global Warming?But now you're saying agriculture is going to help cause Global Warming?"
Well, have you ever been in a barn filled with animals and you smell something terrible? You're smelling methane!
Another source of methane is manure. Because more food is needed we have to raise food. Animals like cows are a source of food which means more manure and methane. Another problem with the increasing population is transportation. More people means more cars, and more cars means more pollution. Also, many people have more than one car.
Since CO2 contributes to global warming, the increase in population makes the problem worse because we breathe out CO2. Also, the trees that convert our CO2 to oxygen are being chopped down because we're using the land that we chop the trees down as a property for our homes and buildings.
We are not replacing the trees (an important part of our eco system), so we are constantly taking advantage of our natural resources and giving nothing back in return.Look forward to my next article on ''How to stop Global Warming!''

Once My Favourite Game

Well this time,my article is about a game that I liked to play alot which is called Club Penguin.I am going to show you how it is created and I will show you the website at the end of the article.In March 2005, the founders of Club Penguin set out to create an ad-free, virtual world where children could play games, have fun and interact. My schools history

Well,I am going to show you the history of my school which was founded on 4th August 1888 by Miss Sophia Blackmore. It started with 8 little Nonya girls in a house in Cross Street. Later, it moved to Telok Ayer Street and was known as Telok Ayer Girls' School.
In 1912, the school moved to 178 Neil Road and was renamed Fairfield Girls' School as the building was put up with a substantial donation of US$5,000 from an American, Mr Fairfield. Its name was later changed to Fairfield Methodist Girls' School in 1958.
The school was run by expatriate principals until the outbreak of the War in 1941.

After the war, the school functioned for a short while on borrowed premises in Pearls' Hill School under the headship of the late Mrs Lim Bock Kee. In 1946, the premises in Neil Road were returned to the school authorities. Mrs Lim Bock Kee remained as the principal until 1959. She was succeeded by Miss Lim Geok Kheng, an 'old' girl as well as old teacher of the school. Miss Lim was the principal until her retirement in December 1982. The retirement of Miss Lim also marked the end of a chapter in the history of Fairfield.

It ceased to be a full all-girls' school and it was named Fairfield Methodist Primary School and Fairfield Methodist Secondary School. Another marked change was that both schools become co-educational and the significance of all these is that it became the first Methodist School to be re-located and to go co-educational.

Fairfield Methodist Primary School started off with 1455 pupils in 37 classes. Miss Cheong Yuen Lin became its first principal. She was with the school until 1988 when she was posted to the Ministry of Education to become an Inspector of Schools.

Miss Dorothy Ho succeeded Miss Cheong as Principal of the school in 1989. After having served the school for more than a decade, she retired at the end of 2001. Mrs Tan Shook Fund took over the principalship in 2002.
The school was officially declared open on 2nd August 1985 by Bishop Ho Chee Sin of the Methodist Church in Singapore.

Zodiac

Zodiac denotes an annual cycle of twelve stations along the ecliptic, the apparent path of the Sun across the heavens through the constellations that divide the ecliptic into twelve equal zones of celestial longitude. The zodiac is recognized as the first known celestial coordinate system. Babylonian astronomers developed the zodiac of eighteen signs.[citation needed] The Mayans used twenty signs. The term zodiac may come from the Latin zōdiacus, from the Greek ζῳδιακός [κύκλος] (zodiakos kyklos), meaning "circle of animals", derived from ζῴδιον (zodion), the diminutive of ζῷον (zoon) "animal". The American Heritage Dictionary(1970) derives the word further from Indo-European 'gwei-', 'to live'. 'zoe', 'life' is listed as the suffixed form of this Indo-European word. However, the classical Greek zodiac also includes signs (also constellations) that are not represented by animals (e.g., Aquarius, Virgo, Gemini, and—for some—Libra). Another suggested etymology is that the Greek term is cognate with the Sanskrit sodi, denoting "a path", i.e., the path through which the Sun travels.The zodiac also means a region of the celestial sphere that includes a band of eight arc degrees above and below the ecliptic, and therefore encompasses the paths of the Moon and the naked eye planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn). The classical astronomers called these planets wandering stars to differentiate them from the fixed stars of the celestial sphere (Ptolemy). Astrologers understood the movement of the planets and the Sun through the zodiac as a means of explaining and predicting events on Earth.

Snakes!

Well,today I am going to show some articles about snakes which I found it interesting.Snake is an elongated reptile of the suborder Serpents. Like all reptiles, snakes are exothermic and covered in scales.

All snakes are carnivorous and can be distinguished from legless lizards by their lack of eyelids, hind limbs and external ears. Snakes are found on every continent except Antarctica and Artic regions. Their size ranges from a tiny 10 cm long thread snake to enormously huge snakes such as pythons and anacondas of up to 7.6 m (25 ft) in length. In order to accommodate snakes' narrow bodies, their paired organs (such as kidneys) appear one in front of the other instead of side by side like most animals.

Most species are non-venomous and those that have venom use it primarily to kill and subdue prey rather than for self-defense. Some possess venom potent enough to cause painful injury or death in humans. Snakes are thought to have evolved from either burrowing or aquatic lizards during the Cretaceous period (c 150 Ma). The diversity of modern snakes appeared during the Paleocene period (c 66 to 56 Ma).

A literary word for snake is serpent, a Middle English word which comes from Old French, and ultimately from serpernt, "to creep", also ερπω in Greek. The serpent is also a symbol of medicine due to its association with Asclepius,the Greek god of medicine. Fifteen families are currently recognized comprising 456 genera and over 2,900 species.

Well this is the article I am showing you now is to tell you something that happened to me some time back when a snake was actually slithering on my neck. It was DISGUSTING!!!! At the Singapore Zoo "night safari", my family and I were watching the trainer showing us how to hold the snake. As usual, he would pick some audience to try it out. I was hoping it wasn't me but unfortunately...it was.I picked up all my courage and move up to the stage and hold the snake.It was scaly and heavy too and I finally knew how a snake feels like,Sssssss... ...

This is my 3rd time writing and this will be an article on World WarII,it was a global military conflict which involved a majority of the world's nations, including all of the great powers, organised into two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the axies.

The war involved the mobilisation of over 100 million military personnel, making it the most widespread war in history. In a state of "total war", the major participants placed their complete economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities at the service of the war effort, erasing the distinction between civilian and military resources. Over 70 million people, the majority of them civilians, were killed, making it the deadliest conflict in human history.

The start of the war is generally held to be in September 1939 with the German invasion of Poland and subsequent declarations of war on Germany by the United Kingdom, France and the British Dominions Many belligerents entered the war before or after this date, during a period which spanned from 1937 to 1941, as a result of other events.

Amongst these main events are the Marco Polo Bridge Incident, the start of Operation Barbarossa, and the attack on Pearl Harbor and British and Dutch colonies in South East Asia. The Soviet Union and the United States emerged from the war as the world's leading superpowers.

This set the stage for the Cold War, which lasted for the next 45 years. The United Nations was formed in the hope of preventing another such conflict. The self-determination spawned by the war accelerated decolonisation movements in Asia and Africa, while Western Europe itself began moving toward integration.

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year starts with the New Moon on the first day of the new year and ends on the full moon 15 days later. The 15th day of the new year is called the Lantern Festival, which is celebrated at night with lantern displays and children carrying lanterns in a parade.
The Chinese calendar is based on a combination of lunar and solar movements. The lunar cycle is about 29.5 days. In order to "catch up" with the solar calendar the Chinese insert an extra month once every few years (seven years out of a 19-yearcycle). This is the same as adding an extra day on leap year. This is why, according to the solar calendar, the Chinese New Year falls on a different date each year.
New Year's Eve and New Year's Day are celebrated as a family affair, a time of reunion and thanksgiving. The celebration was traditionally highlighted with a religious ceremony given in honor of Heaven and Earth, the gods of the household and the family ancestors.
The sacrifice to the ancestors, the most vital of all the rituals, united the living members with those who had passed away. Departed relatives are remembered with great respect because they were responsible for laying the foundations for the fortune and glory of the family.
The presence of the ancestors is acknowledged on New Year's Eve with a dinner arranged for them at the family banquet table. The spirits of the ancestors, together with the living, celebrate the onset of the New Year as one great community. The communal feast called "surrounding the stove" or weilu. It symbolizes family unity and honors the past and present generations.
